My visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand mosque

The Sheikh zayed Grand mosque is truly a magnificent building. I’d been meaning to go for the longest time but always kept making excuses not to. The stars finally aligned and I was able to go on a tour with a friend of mine.

Interesting facts
The mosque is the largest in the UAE and was completed in 2007
The carpet in the main hall, is the largest carpet in the world.
It has seven chandeliers inside, all imported form Germany all containing Swarovski crystals. It’s largest chandelier is the third largest in the world.
The columns in the prayer hall (96 in total) are inlaid with mother of pearl and crystal.
In 2013, on a visit to the mosque Rihanna was asked to leave for being disrespectful.

Dressing
It’s advised that you dress conservatively when visiting the mosque, you won’t be allowed entry otherwise. Men are required to wear long loose fitting trousers, no shorts are permitted while the Women are required to cover up completely with a headscarf and an Abaya which is a traditional robe. if you do not bring your own, these will be provided.
Shoes will be removed before entering the mosque

Other things to note
Kissing, holding hands or any show of affection isn’t permitted inside the mosque
Also men and women aren’t allowed to take a photo together
There’s no entry fee
The timings are from 9am to 10pm everyday except for Fridays
