Make this a healthy holiday season


It’s the most wonderful time of the year! the weather is cooler, the nights are longer and we’re surrounded by family and loved ones constantly bringing us good food. It really is the most wonderful time of the year. 🙂


However, more than just gift giving and sublime moments with our loved ones, the holidays are also notorious for overindulgence so it’s important to make healthy choices this season (don’t worry, you’ll still eat everything, just in moderation). That way there are no post holiday regrets.

Read on for my favorite tips on how to stay healthy while still attending all your fun parties and family dinners.


                                               Drink plenty of water

OK you should be doing this already, but if you aren’t, please do so now. The benefits are endless.

                                               Don’t go to the party hungry

Eat at least 2 hrs before going into any party, that way you’re not ravenous, and less likely to eat any and everything placed before you.

                                            Find out what’s on the menu

I just started doing this one, and let me tell you, it definitely pays off. I’ve found that it’s the best way to survive a holiday party, or any party for that matter. I walk in, knowing exactly what I’m going to have, down to the desserts and drinks.

                                               Limit your alcohol

I know I know, what’s a Christmas party without free flowing booze, but it really adds up. A little trick I picked up is to make your first few drinks alcohol free, like sparkling water with lemon or just regular water and then a glass of water after each drink. That way you’re not gulping down too many cocktails or getting buzzed too quickly.

Choosing calorie friendly cocktails is just as important, check out some drinks under 100 cals here, that way you come in well prepared. 

                                                    Keep active

Be social, move around, offer to help clean up, go visit your friends, hang out a little, even if it’s just a walk after dinner, do it. Do anything that gets your body moving and your heart pumping.

And finally, don’t forget to have fun, it is after all the most wonderful time of the year!
